The story so far?

The band's birth date is August 27th, 1996. At that time, its members are the following: Fulop Csaba - vocals, Fulop Imre - lead guitars, Ioan Sabau - guitars and Puskas "Agyu" Zsolt - drums, the latter being the one who comes with the idea of the band name "Defender".
After six months of hard practice and intensive rehearsing, developing a mix of hard rock and heavy metal, the four have the first opportunity to show off the results of their accumulative work: a club concert in Csikszereda (Miercurea Ciuc), on February 13th, 1997. Satisfied with their first performance on stage, the band performs, in the coming weeks, at a talent hunt competition held in Sepsiszentgyorgy (Sfantu Gheorghe), winning the fourth place, the popularity prize and the special prize of the jury.
Not long after, Fulop Csaba decides to continue with the bass as his main instrument, keeping his vocal qualities for backing jobs and, as the band felt the need for a lead singer, Nagy Sandor joins the band on this purpose. On this set-up, the band puts
together a few tracks on their first demo, entitled "Somewhere".

The summer of 1997 brings in a change in both the band's style and set-up: style wise, progressive metal, with complex, epic song structures, technique oriented, will be what the Defender name will be associated with from now on; the set-up is refreshed as Bodali "Pityi" Istvan - lead singer and Danut Chiorean - guitars replace Nagy Sandor, respectively Ioan Sabau.
Serious, dedicated rehearsals are required and, for a few months, the band restrains from live performance until the spring of 1998.

Starting with July, 1998, they perform in concerts and talent competition massively. At Sepsiszentgyorgy (Sf. Gheorghe), they win the first prize as a band and the first prize for guitar and lead guitar. Only a few days after, at TOP T Buzau, a major rock festival, they win the best lead guitar again and also a recording / distribution deal with Electrecord. In the following weeks, the band wins top prizes at several festivals held in Hunedoara, Vaslui and Satu-Mare.
In the fall of 1998, the band records its first full length demo, entitled Terra's Memories.
The year 1998 brings in more success and recognition for the band, the name Defender being published more and more.

Until the summer of 1999, more epic songs are prepared, for a sequel called "Terra's Memories II". Eight of them are recorded, three of them clocking in after more than 10 minutes, progressive style, of course.
In July, 1999, the band is invited to participate at a well known rock festival in Hungary, Pepsi Sziget. Unfortunately, they miss the festival as the drummer part ways with the band. This is also the reason for the band to give up recording sessions and to taks a break until February, 2001. During this amount of time, the band members play within different project bands.

In February 2001, Fulop Imre and the Fulop Csaba decide to revive Defender, in the following set-up: Bodali "Pityi" Istvan - lead singer, Fulop Imre - lead guitars, Fulop Csaba - bass, Danut Chiorean - guitars and Fulop "Zsozso" Zsolt - drums. This new beginning brings in a change in the band's style: they opt for a more melodic, ear-friendly rock. In April 2001 takes place the first live performance since the change. With this new style, the concert proves to be a great success. Since this turning point, the band gains more success, recognition and fans. In the summer of 2001, Florin Suteu - keyboards joins the band.
The band makes another major decision: they will sing, from now on, only in Hungarian.
New songs are being composed. Ebredes, Ha faj, ha bant, ha eget, Ferfiver, En ott leszek are being sung by more and more fans during the concerts.
In the fall of 2001, Boros Olimp joins the Defender team as a manager.
After several tours, in November 2001, the band starts the recording sessions for the new studio material, which will, eventually, be called Koszobor.

In the spring of 2002, the band signs a new deal, with Dancs Market Records, from Sepsiszentgyorgy (Sf.Gheorghe). Thus, Defender becomes the first band from Marosvasarhely (Tg.Mures) issuing a full length material of significant importance, which later will prove to be a great success. That summer as well, Defender wins the prize for the most successful Transylvanian rock band.
In April, May and June 2002, the band tours with Moby Dick, Tankcsapda, Ossian and Kiss Forever Band, legendary names of the Hungarian rock scene. Eventually, Defender receives a personal invitation from Pacsi Endre, the leader of Ossian, to participate at a mega-concert on 2nd of November, in Petofi Csarnok, Budapest, Hungary. This is the first time for a Transylvanian band to perform at such occasion.
In the summer of 2002, the band has also the occasion to head-line several festivals.
October is the time when Koszobor is officially released and in November, the band celebrates their 6th anniversary, putting together an awesome show. Afterwards, they take part to a few other festivals and concerts and issue their first video.

The year 2003 is the best year for the band, by that time. They start to write new songs, for a new album and play them live, starting with March.
Radu Suciu and Gall Zoltan join the management of Defender.
New locations are being played in 2003; among these, The Iuliu Merca Festival in Kolozsvar (Cluj-Napoca), where, after 40 minutes of instrumental songs, Defender win the special prize of the jury and also the best guitar player and best bass player prizes.
In August 2003, the band makes the decision to push the envelope further and to record the 14 songs of the new album in a more professional environment. With the help of Alapi Istvan, the guitar player of EDDA, a contract with Utopia Studios located in Budapest, Hungary is negociated; these songs will be, eventually, recorded during the month of April, 2004.
In the fall of 2003, the band plays on the stage of the Sports Hall of Marosvasarhely (Targu Mures), at the 5th anniversary of Radio GaGa, where more than 5,000 fans would fill the seats. In the forthcoming weeks, Defender and EDDA tour several Transylvanian cities. After some discussions, it seems chances are that the new studio album will be distributed and promoted on the Hungarian market too.
On November 15th, the band performs again live on the stage of Petofi Csarnok in Budapest, Hungary, together with Ossian. The show is a huge success.
On November 29th, the band holds its 7th anniversary concert, which proves to be the most successful rock show ever organized by the band.

At the end of 2003 the band's new vocals is Dan Peter. He is the one with whom the Defender records his third album in Budapest during April - May 2004 in Utopia Studio, Budapest.

The new album is called "Alarcod mogott" (Behind your mask) and is released in June 2004.

Since the first months of 2005, the band's old vocalist returns, and the band will follow his carreer in the well-known formation: Bodáli István - vocals, Fülöp Imre - lead guitar, Fülöp Csaba - bass, Danut Chiorean - guitar, Florin Suteu, keyboard and Fülöp Zsolt - drums.

On the 3rd of December, 2005 the band celebrates his 9th Birthday, holding a huge concert in the Tg. Mures Cultural Palace.
This is the date when the 4th Defender album is launched: Tiszta Szivvel, being the first Unplugged album of the band.
